22-Year-Old Victim Of Fatal Northern Westchester Crash Remembered For 'Charming Smile'

Friends and family of a 22-year-old Pound Ridge man who was killed in a head-on crash in Northern Westchester gathered to remember him on Friday, Dec. 20.

Diego Trejo, who died Monday,  Dec. 16, was remembered as a kind and gentle soul during a funeral mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mount Kisco. He was buried at St. Francis Cemetery.

According to his obituary, Trejo was known for his "charming smile,"  which touched the lives of many.

He died along with his dog Lily in the two-vehicle crash while driving west on Route 172 in Bedford when a 51-year-old Bedford man driving a BMW, collied with Trejo's vehicle around 9:20 p.m., said Bedford Police.

Trejo died at the scene. The other driver, identified as Robert Schuster, was taken to Westchester Medical Center with non life-threatening, police said.

Trejo is survived by his mother Maria Camacho, his father Julio Trejo, step-father Mario Camacho, sisters, Stephanie and Sophia Trejo; grandparents Maria Yolanda and Fernando Martinez, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. 

The GoFundMe page said: "Whenever you saw Diego, he always said hello with a big smile. He was a gentle soul and loved to have a good time, and was just starting to live his life. He was truly free-spirited and full of happiness."
